The Vaad Harabanim of Greater Pittsburgh, led by the rabbis of all of the Pittsburgh Orthodox synagogues, serves as the Halakhic authority for the Pittsburgh community, including the Chevra Kadisha, Mikvah and Eruv. The Vaad also coordinates educational initiatives for the community, including unique pan-communal Shabbos Shuva and Shabbos haGadol Derashos. The Vaad also serves as the local kosher supervision agency in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The Vaad upholds the highest standard of kashrut, striving to match the practices of nationally recognized supervision agencies. The Vaad supervises local restaurants, bakeries, caterers, institutional kitchens, and commercial enterprises.
